Courses in KISD
Hi, I'm lorenzo fernandez, next september I will come to study in KISD so now
i'm trying to select the courses for next year but, I need some help. The
problem is that I don't know how many courses of each type usually the students
choose: how many long term, short term, seminaries...Can i see an example?
Thanks
Lorenzo Fernandez

hi lorenzo,
that's a tough question ... it is probably the best way to wait till you get there because of the ECTS and so on ... but ask one of the former italian studens that were at KISD. for example Margherita or Arianna. For the contacts wirte a mail to medesmailatgmaildotcom.
There is a lot of confusion about ECTS credits at Kisd. I only received what seem to be the most reliable numbers at the end of my second semester. They are as follows:
Projects
Long Term [12 ECTS]
Medium Term [6 ECTS]
Short Term [3 ECTS]
Cologne Resources [1 ECTS]
Seminars
Scientific [4 ECTS]
Technical [3 ECTS]
Cultural Preparation [4 ECTS]
Courses
Language Preparation [3 ECTS]
Workshop [1 ECTS]
Courses (Vertiefungskurs) [1 ECTS]
Wednesday Lectures [2 ECTS]
Medes Workshop [2 ECTS]
AG [2 ECTS]
Be careful, since with these credits, the amount of projects that is reccommended for regular Kisd students is not enough to reach 60. On the other hand, keep in mind that 52.5 credits are sufficient to get your degree in Milan (7.5 are awarded for the degree itself).
Thank you very much Stefano! That's very helpful!
Talking about the work-load:
I would not recommand to choose two projects at the same time. So be careful about the dates the projects are taking place.
For example:
_ two short term projects is almost impossible if you do wanna sleep and eat.
_a short term project and a midterm project is also quite heavy.
_a long term and a short term might work, but it depends on how intensive the projects are.
But:
_a seminar and a project work together quite well.
In general:
_you will have one or two fixed dates during the week for either seminars or projects to get a feedback from professors and to see what other students are doing. (kind of like Milan)
_you don't have to "choose" a lecture ... lectures will be held every tuesday and wednesday evening. So if you addend the lectures you will get your ECTS for that.
_the "Koelner Resourcen" project is the must-introduction project for all new students. It is similar to a workshop in Milan.
_the "Werkstatteinführung" is an introduction course for the wood-, metal-, model-, pint-workshop. They take place before the actual semester starts. It might be difficult to get in thought but it's worth a try if you are in cologne anyway.
_a scientific seminar is used to get deeper into a specific field. It is mostly theoretically and usually you have to do an little research or to write an article/essay about a theme.
_a hands in seminar is suppose to teach you a specific skill (computer application, drawing, photography ... etc.)
If you don't have it yet there is the "current curricular calendar" for all events available on the KISD site.

If you do have specific questions on projects or seminars don't hesitate to ask.
